LASIK or Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis is a surgical procedure intended to reduce a person’s dependency on glasses or contact lenses.
LASIK surgery is most commonly performed as a cure for myopia (nearsightedness), but can also be used to cure hyperopia (farsightedness) or astigmatism (corneal irregularities).
Lasik is a procedure that permanently changes the shape of the cornea using a special laser and thus focusing the light rays exactly on the retina.
The steps of the procedure are as follows:
A suction ring is placed on the eye to stabilize and check the eye pressure.
The microkeratome, a cutting instrument, is attached to the suction ring.
The blade of the microkeratome is used to cut a flap in the cornea.
The exposed inner layer of the cornea is then reshaped with an excimer laser.
The corneal flap is returned to its original position.
LASIK is an ambulatory procedure; the patient can walk into the surgery center, have the procedure and walk out again and is awake the whole time. Occasionally, the doctor may administer a mild oral sedative.

@feba95 The odds are much better than that (I would say that – I work in the industry!) but of course there is always risk with surgery. Get to a reputable clinic and get informed.

I’ve got nearsightedness and like to get rid of it, but after all comments against it, I’m not sure I wanna take the risk.
It sounds like a 50/50 shot… =O
Lasik ruined my …
Lasik ruined my life. non-stop constant eye pain, can’t work on a computer because the eyes are almost unbearably sore after about 30 seconds, glare that makes vision crappy during the day and all kinds of crappy night vision problems. life sucks since Dr. Keon Nia touched my eyes.
I have had …
I have had Intralase LASIK correction 4 days ago. I can see clearly in the distance, but I am having trouble focusing on anything closer. I can see things, but a bit blurry and unfocussed. Lights are blurry all of the time. Does anyone know if this is normal and if this will settle down? Does it take you eyes considerable time to re-focus themselves or something? ( These are questions I did ask after the procedure, but didn’t exactly get a clear answer )

Beginning in April …
Beginning in April of 2009, McCann was bothered by blurry vision in his left eye, due to a slight vision change following 2007 LASIK surgery.
2 years after. It’s called regression and it’s a well known possibility. About 5 to 10% of people getting lasik will suffer from that. If your cornea is thick enough, you can get a second intervention to fix it.
Please people, don’t fall into that fear propaganda. Yes there are risks, like with any surgery and you should be informed but not terrorized!
I got the Lasik …
I got the Lasik surgery two days ago. The only discomfort is when they put the suction ring on your eye. It’s like pushing on the side of your closed eye with your finger. You will lose vision during that time too and feel a vibration. It last only seconds (about 10). Everything else is surprisingly painless. When they open the flap, your vision will blur, like a kaleidoscope. The laser is quick and painless but you will smell something like burning hair.
Yeah you will be …
Yeah you will be awake, but before you start the prosedure, they will put a local anesthesia (by drops, not needle) on your eye. The whole lasik procedure is just only 17 second top. But you have to know, in an eye centre that concern about patient and not about money, they will do the lasik PRE-OP and that will takes you the entire day. Lasik Pre-op is a diagnostic procedure just to make sure you are a suitable candidate for Lasik and to ensure your safety. From 10 patient who enroll for lasik,

But, what if, a patient takes the LAW into their own hands, now ruined and suicidal feeling there is nothing to live for? Doesn’t this create an “x” factor for the Lying LASIK Doctors to think about? Does safety now come before money for once? Only time will tell. Basically, the Lying LASIK Doctors have lied in order to save a lawsuit, while pushing the patient past the Statute of Limitations to sue them which is about 2 years usually, all while ruining his patient’s eyesight and life.

The FDA called an EMERGENCY PANEL DISCUSSION on LASIK Surgery: April 25th, 2008. Google LASIK FDA. The FDA knows there is something wrong and has estimated about 600,000+ Americans permanently damaged from LASIK. How does this effect you and I? Hurt Patients driving your kids school buses, driving trains, flying your plane, operating your balance sheets, etc…Do you get how it effects you now? Don’t do LASIK and risk your eyesight. Many patients have committed suicide. You may be next.
